Reference equation for 6-minute walk in individuals with Parkinson disease.

چکیده
Normal values, as well as determining factors, for the 6-minute walk test are available for nondisabled adults, but less is known about individuals with Parkinson disease (PD). This study created a PD-specific reference equation and identified unique factors associated with 6-minute walk distance (6MWD). Eighty individuals (mean +/- standard deviation [SD] age: 66.3 +/- 9.8 yr) with mild to moderate PD underwent a neurological examination and completed a small battery of tests to assess their balance confidence, fall risk, mobility, and balance. Their mean +/- SD 6MWD was 394.1 +/- 98.4 m (95% confidence interval: 370.0-418.1). Stepwise multiple regression analysis demonstrated that timed up-and-go (TUG) test, one-leg stance (OLS) test, and sex were significant independent contributors to 6MWD and accounted for 56.6% of the variance. The resulting PD-specific regression equation is 6MWD pred = 543.06 + (-10.83 degrees TUG) + (2.04 degrees OLS) + (-44.44 degrees sex). (For sex, 0 = female, 1 = male.) Future interpretation of 6MWD in individuals with PD may be enhanced if expressed as a percentage of the value predicted utilizing this reference equation.

متن کاملPredictive validity analysis of six reference equations for the 6-minute walk test in healthy Brazilian men: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is an important tool for evaluating functional capacity and exercise tolerance. The reference equations for the 6MWT in healthy subjects were established on the basis of American and European populations, but reference equations have been proposed with different variables for the Brazilian population. OBJECTIVE To analyze the predictive validity of s...
متن کامل[Reference Equations for the 6-Minute Walk Test in Healthy Individuals.]
The six-minute walk test (6MWT) has been broadly used in clinical settings. Several reference equations for prediction of the total distance walked during the test (6MWD) are available in literature. The present review aimed to critically discuss studies, published in Portuguese and English (LILACS, SCIELO, MEDLINE, PUBMED), which evaluated normal values and created reference equations for pred...
متن کاملSix-minute walk test: reference values for healthy adults in Brazil.
OBJECTIVE To develop regression equations for six-minute walk distance (6MWD) in healthy adults (20-80 years of age) in Brazil. METHODS We included 132 volunteers (66 males) without respiratory disease, cardiac disease, or comorbidities that affect ambulation. The volunteers completed three six-minute walk tests. Prior to and at the end of each test, we obtained SpO2 and maximal HR, as well a...
متن کاملThe Six-minute Walk Test (6MWT) for the Evaluation of Pulmonary Diseases
The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a well-tolerated test which reflects daily activities and can be easily used in clinical practice. The 6MWT provides information about functional capacity, response to therapy and prognosis across a range of chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. Moreover, the 6MWT is sensitive to the common therapies used for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, such as pulmon...
